It was a chilly day in San Francisco, CA, as thousands of people gathered at The Winterland Ballroom. The night started with a Thanksgiving FEAST for everyone in attendance. Then there was a ballroom dancing session, followed by a few poem readings. After that, Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, and Richard Manuel took the stage. It was The Band's final show (at least the final show for the 5 original members together). After about 16 years on the road, they decided that it was time to call it quits. What started as a simple farewell concert with a few friends, turned into (in my humble opinion) the greatest, and most EPIC Rock N Roll concert in the history of absolutely everything. After starting the show with a nice block of some of their favorite songs, The Band started to welcome some of their friends on stage to play with them. And by 'Friends', i mean the likes of Eric Clapton, Dr. John, Neil Young, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, Joni Mitchell, Bobby Charles, Ronny Hawkins, Pinetop Perkins, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Stephen Stills, Ronnie Wood, and maybe a few others i can't remember right now. The initial concert ended with The Band and all of their friends (I wish I had friends like that) coming on stage to play "I Shall Be Released". After a few more random jam sessions through out the night, featuring a mix of all the stars, The Band came back out on stage at around 2 a.m. to play what would be the last song they ever performed together, "Don't Do It". If you haven't seen the DVD yet, something is wrong with you, and you should go buy it and watch it repeatedly. I warn you, after seeing this concert, nothing will ever be as beautiful, no music will ever be as good, and anything you do will leave you wanting more.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody. I'm off to continue my tradition (i'm still working on getting more people to join me every year. So far it's been just me) of watching The Last Waltz on Thanksgiving day. Keep on Rockin'.

In 1991, approximately 300,000 people gathered for a free concert in Golden Gate Park, in San Francisco CA. "Laughter, Love, and Music" was a tribute concert to legendary promoter Bill Graham, who died in a helicopter crash about a week earlier. Grateful Dead, Jackson Browne, Santana, Joe Satriani were among the the artists there. Also, Journey, and Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young both reunited for this show.

Another one to put on the LOOOONNNG list of reasons that i wish i was born about 40 years earlier than i was.

Duane Allman. He was lost 38 years ago today. Him, like so many others, will live forever through their music. Rest in peace Duane, and thank you.
